Roll 4 Initiative
A downloadable game for Windows
Made for the GMTK Game Jam 2022
Welcome to the Initiative™ Rulebook (Copyright owned by Sorcerers of the Sea 1982)!
Dice are your loyal and valued companions! Each dice has a class that determines what it is capable of.
Combat:
When you fight monsters, you'll choose which Dice to use and then roll it to activate a Skill! Afterward, your opponent will have a chance to attack back! You can dodge attacks to avoid taking damage. If you dodge all the enemies' attacks perfectly, your Dice will perform a bonus roll and use another skill with random targets.
Skills:
Each dice can equip skills to its faces. Skills grow in power based on which face they are equipped to. This is known as that side’s Rank. Final results are rounded down but the minimum final result is 1.
For example, Bash deals Rank/2 damage to a single target. If it was equipped to a side of Rank 5 side the skill would deal 2 damage.
Watch out for powerful skills with Cooldowns. They may be powerful but if you roll a skill while it's on cooldown, the skill will fizzle and fail.
Hello From the Creators!
Thanks for playing our game! This build shows a combat encounter of our game, with predetermined dice loadouts. We initially wanted customizable dice as mentioned in the in-game tutorial. Unfortunately, this didn't quite come to fruition with our schedules but were still happy with what we managed to do!
After the jam, we're considering taking a bit more time in the future to finish our initial goal of the inventory system and a couple of fights. For now, this is our little proof of concept for the combat system we managed to get done. Thanks again for checking it out and we look forward to your thoughts and feedback!
